Pöllauer Tal is a diverse, colourful and hilly patchwork landscape made up of many forests, meadows, fields and orchards. The floor of the valley is 345 m above sea level and at its highest point it rises up to 1,280 m above sea level.

The communities of Pöllau, Pöllauberg, Rabenwald, Schönegg, Sonnhofen and Saifen-Boden are located in the Pöllauer Tal valley and encompass an area of 122 km².
